Make Windows Explorer Open Where You Want It

Sometimes it seems as if the Windows Explorer decides on its own which folder it's going to open up with.

Sometimes it opens up and shows the My Documents folder, sometimes it's your home folder, and sometimes it's a folder you've never seen before!

It's time to take control over where the Explorer takes you when you open it up. The good news is that it's easy to do that. Here's how:

Right click on the desktop, point to New and click Shortcut.

In the Create Shortcut Wizard (without spaces in the filename), type %windir%\Explorer.e x e /e,/root,C:\ in the Type the location of the item text box. You can change the C:\ to be whatever you like. If you want the Windows Explorer to always open to the D:\MyStuff folder, you would put D:\MyStuff there instead of C:

Click Next. In the Type a name for this shortcut text box, type in My Explorer. Hey, it's your computer, you paid for it, and it's no longer Windows' Explorer, it's YOUR Explorer! [g] Click Finish.

Now Windows Explorer will open to the folder you want to see, every time.
