How to Change the Size of Thumbnails in Windows Explorer

You can change the size of the thumbnail photos that you see when you select the Thumbnail view for Windows Explorer. Just perform these steps:

  1. Click Start | Run and type regedit to start the Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
  3. In the right pane, right click an empty space and select New and then DWORD value.
  4. Name the new value ThumbnailSize.
  5. Double click the new value, and in the Data value field, type a value between 32 and 96 (hex) to set the pixel size.
  6. Close the Registry Editor.

Remember that when you make changes to the HKEY CURRENT USER key, these changes are only effective for the user who is logged on when the changes are made. If you're an administrator, you can change the values for all users by adding the value to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE instead.
